It was the need to improve the information available at the fire ground and implement a new way of working; an Incident Control System, that led Dorset Fire and Rescue to make the decision to replace it's 10 year old command unit with a new vehicle equipped with emerging computer technology and capable of managing an incident on route as well as on site.
"We approached Compusys because they were already the supplier of our PCs and we were extremely pleased with the quality of their hardware and level of service they provided. We were looking for a way of connecting the vehicle to our network so that we could access the Incident Management System on route and on the fire ground. This would enable us to log each incident in detail, identify accurately where everyone was at any given time and provide up to the minute information about the status of an incident to the Incident Commander as well as providing information in the form of maps, aerial photographs, chemical data and personnel information as and when it was needed. We also wanted to integrate a CCTV system", explains Chris Donaldson, IT Manager at Dorset Fire and Rescue Service. |
