"Putting citizens and customers at the heart of everything we do" is part of The Prime Minister’s vision to create a better Britain. Modernising government to ensure that services will be accessible at times and places most convenient to the customer, via the Internet, interactive digital TV, mobile technology or kiosk technology as well as by telephone and over the counter face to face, is all part of the ‘e-government’ initiative to achieve this vision. This modernisation is also part of the Government’s broader plan to enable Britain to compete successfully in the global economy.
"The Council has over 400 service areas and each area publishes information on the Website relating to its particular service", explains Jane Horner, Web Manager for North Somerset Council. "The small Web Team just couldn’t manage the volume of work required to keep the site up-to-date. Often the changes were minor and could easily be done in the department, but because Website publishing requires specialist HTML programming skills, this wasn’t possible. We needed a CMS solution, which allowed non-technical people within the different service areas to quickly and easily, and with minimal training, author, change and publish their own content."
"We chose Compusys because they were the most competitively priced and what impressed us greatly was that they were doing a similar thing for Socitm, The Society of Information Technology Management" says Jane. The Society is a significant Web-based provider of advice and guidance on ICT and e-government to local authorities. We have a great respect for them and regularly use their services, so their choice to use Compusys was endorsement enough."
