Brunel Engines Research - one of the largest and most active combustion engine research groups in UK - has purchased a Compusys cluster solution enabling them to carry out simulations of pulsating flow never been done before.
The Compusys Discovery cluster is being used for numerical modelling and the simulation of engine flow and combustion and noise prediction, and for engine and vehicle aerodynamic modelling.
Dr Xi Jiang, a lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Brunel University comments, “Because of the complexity and size of my simulations I needed a really powerful computer. I chose Compusys because of their excellent reputation for designing bespoke cluster computer solutions using commodity parts. This means you get both a price and a performance advantage. We are extremely happy and are making good progress.”
As a result of his research using the cluster solution, Dr Xi Jiang’s paper entitled "A numerical study of noise generation from a heated axisymmetric pulsating jet" has been accepted as part of 11th International Congress on Sound and Vibration in St. Petersburg, Russia between 5-8 July, 2004. |
