In order to achieve the targets laid down by the government to make information within the Council more accessible to the public, MTCBC are implementing Content Management Server by Microsoft to enable users to update the website without the need for any web design skills
Empowering users to maintain their own sections of the website in this way ensures that content on the website is always up to date and accurate, giving visitors to the website a much better on-line experience and increasing the likelyhood of future visits
Kelvin Lewis Brain, a Consultant with Compusys Consulting says that "traditionally, maintaining the website has been the responsibility of the IT departments within councils, but without a thorough understanding of the wider issues within the source department the information published by IT is simply a tick in a box exercise. Giving the source departments the ability to author their own web content with ease enables the IT Department to deal with more complex issues such as the integration of existing systems and processes to publish information automatically, the classic example being the publication of committee services documents such as meeting agendas, minutes, items and reports to reduce the enormous amount of time spent within the council to ensure that this information is made public"
Adam Tyson, Technical Consultant at Compusys firmly believes that "as more organisations try and create an IT environment where systems are 'joined-up' the adoption of standards such as the .NET framework by Microsoft will ease the burden placed on IT Department to exchange data in formats such as XML.
Compusys Consulting, a MIcrosoft Solutions Partner has six clients with Content Management Solutions from Microsoft and are certain that as integration with existing systems becomes more important in the near future that more IT Department heads will select this type of solution as publishing platform for their organisation. |
